Making Connections with Grandparents and Special Friends in First Grade


Each month of the school year, the first graders will use drawing, writing, simple craft projects, and photos to make connections with their grandparents and special friends. Here are some ideas that we may use this school year to make our connections.

SEPT.    Classroom discussion about family – what are grandparents/special friends. What they mean to each child.

OCT.    Introduction letter to grandparents/special friends
           photo of child as a first grader. Request for a photo
           From grandparent/special friend to be hung on our Intergenerational wall.

NOV.    Seasonal Drawing – a favorite holiday recipe

DEC.    Seasonal Picture

JAN.     Child’s school interests / questionnaire for grandparents/special friends

FEB.     Valentine card – bookmark

MAR.    Grandparents are special – photo of child in school

APR.     Spring Flower picture, learning about other places

MAY    Poetry sharing – Grandparent/Special Friend Book

Grandparents are encouraged to visit the classroom or e-mail us. They can read,
help with snack, share their interests, do craft activities, etc.
